How To Make A World Wide Web Page

There are many resources available for the beginner to learn about web page development. Resources may be purchased as software/books, software downloaded for trial for educational purposes or software utilized "on-line" to assist in web page design. Most current software takes a "step by step" approach using a number of templates. The individual selects the template, color schemes and then completes the process by filling in the text areas with their information. The easiest step is to perform a WWW search using one of the many search engines to locate and review various sites for assistance. Several WWW search engines are:

Front Page- a large collection of Search Engines & Web-Site Links.  This page features the top search engines and sites for locating specific subjects of interests.

Net Search - a resource which enables one to subscribe to various subject/career specific list serves which update you by e-mail.  Be careful this can get time consuming and takes up space on your e-mail server and your computer.

Netscape:  Netscape Composer Software was used in developing this WWW site. A comprehensive list of search engines is located on Netscape's Home Page.  Netscape Composer Software is available for downloading at this site.  Please follow directions for your computer and Netscape's requirements.

Eleanor Ames, Instructor, The Ohio State University, Extension:  Training programs at The Ohio State University, facilitated by Eleanor Ames, were very helpful in understanding and applying HTML formatting to the collection of my research and activities for this site.  Eleanor Ames, Instructor at OSU Extension, has an active web development site which is VERY useful.  Hints, graphics, templates for Ohio State University Extension county offices, animations and complete instructions are available. A new Eudora tutorial is also available.

Once the page(s) is designed and complete, the file(s) must be saved to the local computer or diskette. A server, or home computer with server software and access to the Internet, must be located for the individual to FTP (file transfer protocol) or "post/publish" their web page file(s).  There are several FTP resources available, Netscape Composer also has a publish feature available.

Several sites also offer free trial software to download and utilize for your Web publishing needs.  Follow the KISS principle, Keep It Simple Shirley!!  Skills and resources can always be improved after the basics are mastered.  Good luck.
