REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

Deadlines for proposal submission each year are:
September 15 – December 15 – March 15

The College of Food , Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Faculty Council will support a program to bring outstanding scientists and educators to OSU for short (2-4 day) visits for the purpose of mutual interaction and to benefit from the expertise of the visiting expert. Visits should promote interdisciplinary activities and address needs or interests in research, teaching or extension programs. The purpose of the program is to bring experts to our College that would address diverse and widely appealing topics, stimulate new thinking and create a flow of ideas. Faculty in all departments of the CFAES are encouraged to submit proposals . This is not simply another seminar support program but rather is meant to foster intensive interaction with faculty, staff and students. This is also an opportunity for the expert to become acquainted with programs at The Ohio State University. It is anticipated that one to two programs will be supported per quarter with a funding level of up to $2,000 per program.

Selection Criteria

With the goal of maximizing impact on CFAES, proposals will be assessed on a competitive basis using the following criteria:

•  Interdisciplinary

•  Size and breadth of interested audience

•  Credentials of visiting expert

•  Potential for external exposure given to CFAES

Exposure to multiple locations of CFAES is expected unless the proposal clearly states why it is not essential. Multiple locations may include the Columbus and Wooster campuses, and District Extension Offices. The use of video linkages between these locations is strongly encouraged and would be considered favorably.

Application Process

Applications from CFAES faculty will be considered. Requests should include the following information and be submitted ELECTRONICALLY to Carol Poe, CFAES Faculty Council Administrative Secretary (poe.4@osu.edu ) .

•  The purpose of the visit

•  The affiliation and qualifications of the visiting expert (include a 2 page maximum Curriculum Vitae)

•  Justification of the program

•  Budget: Acceptable costs include travel and per diem expenses for the visiting expert. An honorarium up to $500 is also acceptable. The total budget should not exceed $2000.

Proposals should be submitted in ELECTRONIC form to Carol Poe , CFAES Faculty Council Administrative Secretary ( poe.4@osu.edu ) no later than September 15 th , December 15 th or March 15 th to be considered for review by your CFAES Faculty Council at their next regular meeting.

Keep in mind that this program is to initiate visits by experts, not pay for visitors invited for another purpose or for which other funding is available. Proposals to pay for visits that will have already occurred before review by the Faculty Council are not eligible for this funding.
