China

Program in China: Reform and Sustainable Development

This spring quarter program is an intensive, eight week program of courses, workshops and field trips that introduces students to issues of agricultural production, rural development, and socio-economic reform in the People's Republic of China. In addition, students receive instruction on Chinese history, culture, society, and language. Field trips to farms, farming communities, agro-industries, and places of cultural and historical importance are an integral component of the program.

England

Program in the Comparative Analysis of Constructed Landscapes in England and the Midwestern USA

This program is an intensive analysis of landscape systems in the US and England. The purpose is to compare and contrast the two cultures through their landscapes and perhaps gain a greaterunderstanding of each. The analysis includes an assessment of landscape systems (gardening, design, installation, and maintenance of ornamental plants and turf) in the US through reading, discussions, visits, and interviews. A parallel analysis, as well as some experiential learning of how some landscapes are developed, is done in England.

Czech Republic

East Central Europe in Transition

In this six week summer program, students are exposed to the sweeping changes which have taken place in the Czech Republic since the "Velvet Revolution" of 1989. The collapse of communism has ignited reforms which affect all aspects of Czech life. Students focus on agricultural development and economic change in addition to the history and culture of the Czech Republic. A representative from the OSU College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences will serve as Resident Director for the summer program.

Dominican Republic

Program in International Develpment

This intensive, six week program of courses and field trips introduces students to problems of agricultural production and rural development in the Dominican Republic. Students become aware of issues affecting international development through direct exposure to Dominican agriculture and rural life. Field trips are integral to the program and are intended to show the full complexity of international development beyond the theoretical learning of the classroom.

Animal Production in an Economy Based on Agricultural Exports

(15 credit hours
)
A relatively new and very popular program, students have the opportunity to visit the land down under to learn about international trade, food animal production in diverse environments (including animal welfare policy) and the Aussie culture, history and economics. Field trips are an integral part of the study abroad experience. Students will live in residence halls and have an opportunity to do some traveling.





Ecology & Environmental Issues in Siberia

This is an intensive, five-week summer program of courses, laboratories, seminars and field trips introducing students to Siberia’s environmental problems within the context of Russia’s transitioning economy. Students will also study Siberian colonization, enlightenment and the interaction of indigenous and Russian cultures and peoples in the region.
