Alumni Profiles:

Jeremy Buckley “A degree in Animal Sciences gave me all the qualities I needed to go to medical school. It is genetics, physiology, anatomy, nutrition, and biochemistry in an applied form. I learned the fundamentals in Animal Science and took them to medical school. I still apply what I learned a decade ago every day on the wards at the hospital, in the clinic, and in the lab. It was a great decision for me to enroll in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences and a time that I treasure to this day.”

“The Animal Science program at Ohio State helped me acquire a strong background in science so I could pursue my dream of becoming an animal-assisted therapist. Now that I am in the Master’s program for Physical Therapy at Ohio State, I am constantly thankful for the opportunities I had as an undergraduate. The Animal Science program provided me with the chance to do an internship, work with a strong and supportive faculty, and complete an honors research project on animal-assisted therapy. ”

"I rate my food science education that I received at Ohio State as world class. When I first considered food science, I was merely looking for a course of study that overlapped with my pre-requisite pre-medical education, and wasn’t as theoretical as chemistry or biology. What I got was something much more. I enjoyed the hands on style learning that classes and laboratories in the food science major provided. This is the same style of learning that I now apply everyday in lab and clinical settings in my medical education. The amount of individual attention and time that the faculty in the food science department were willing to invest into myself and my classmates provided the best pre-medical preparation available at Ohio State. The food science program provided the opportunity for a great education, and set me apart from the hundreds of biology majors during the application process."
