“A degree in Animal Sciences
gave me all the qualities I needed to go to medical
school. It is genetics, physiology, anatomy, nutrition,
and biochemistry in an applied form. I learned the
fundamentals in Animal Science and took them to
medical school. I still apply what I learned a decade
ago every day on the wards at the hospital, in the
clinic, and in the lab. It was a great decision
for me to enroll in the College of Food, Agricultural,
and Environmental Sciences and a time that I treasure
to this day.”

“My degree in Food Science and Nutrition
from the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental
Sciences helped to prepare me for my career as a
laboratory animal veterinarian by providing me with
an excellent scientific background that I use daily
in my job interacting with those in the research
field. The smaller class sizes allowed me close
access to professors and counselors who encouraged
me to think independently and challenge myself,
which has helped give me the drive and determination
to be successful in my career.”

“The fun of wine production is that
I never have a typical day. Some days I'm in the
vineyard, some days I'm in the cellar. Understanding

"I rate my food science education that
I received at Ohio State as world class. When I
first considered food science, I was merely looking
for a course of study that overlapped with my pre-requisite
pre-medical education, and wasn’t as theoretical
as chemistry or biology. What I got was something
much more. I enjoyed the hands on style learning
that classes and laboratories in the food science
major provided. This is the same style of learning
that I now apply everyday in lab and clinical settings
in my medical education. The amount of individual
attention and time that the faculty in the food
science department were willing to invest into myself
and my classmates provided the best pre-medical
preparation available at Ohio State. The food science
program provided the opportunity for a great education,
and set me apart from the hundreds of biology majors
during the application process."
