What Students Say About the Program...

“I think it offered an entirely different perspective on the world.”

“I was very surprised at the amount of majors and field that are incorporated in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. The research opportunities seem to go way beyond what I expected.”

We urge you to select students to compete for one of the coveted positions at the World Food Prize Youth Institute.

Leading educators have described this high school program as “the single most prestigious program offered to high school students.”

Here are comments from an Ohio student, their teacher, and faculty member who participated in 2005:

Student Reactions:

"The World Food Prize Youth Institute was an incredible opportunity to learn about the critical issues facing the world today. In my opinion, the interactions I was able to have with the leaders of today - governmental, private business sector, and in academia - are unprecedented for any youth symposium. The adults were excited and eager to discuss current problems and their solutions with me during many of the dinners and social events. I have alread begun to utilize the contacts I established and hope to use this experience as a stepping stone toward joining the innovative people I met at The World Food Prize in the battle against world hunger and poverty."

Kenneth M. Quinn, president of the WFP Foundation congratulates Laura Johnson on her successful placement of an international internship to the World Vegetable Center in Taiwan.

Teacher Reactions:

"Truly this was a life changing experience...I am so thankful that you have provided this opportunity for students in Ohio to be a part of the World Food Prize Conference and Youth Institute. I hope this program grows in stregth and numbers. It is very valuable."
– Laura Brennan

Chemistry Teacher and Science Research Advisor

OSU Faculty Reactions:

"The great thing about the Global Youth Institute is that the students are not segregated from the experts. They mingle, learn and share their thoughts and ideas with everyone" "I am immensely thankful to be active in this event. It gave me the opportunity to work with talented students and to discuss my work with other professionals. It allows me to become considered part of the pool of professional experts internationally."
Dr. Hugo Melgar-Quinonez worked with the students on the Ohio State campus as they competed to be chosen for the institute, accompanied them to the institute and worked with a small group, and provided professional development for the teachers.
