I. Title of Program or Issue: Industrial Site Development and Marketing

A. Situational Statement: Many communities in Ohio wish to participate in the highly competitive arena of industrial attraction. A community can increase its potential for success by throughly understanding how an industrial firm reviews sites, what qualities a firms seek within an industrial site and understanding the State of Ohio attraction system.

B. Description/Educational Objectives: To assist community leaders understanding of the basic requirements for a competitive site for industrial attraction and develop strategies to strengthen their community's potential for success.

C. Suggested Time Required for Program: Two and one-half hours (2½) are necessary to introduce concepts, participate in the assimilation game and group discussions.

Suggested Time of Year: Anytime

D. Audience and Level of Offering: It is extremely important that community leaders who determine public policy are involved in the program. This can include elected and appointed public officials, chamber of commerce members, community and economic development organizations and residents.

E. Teaching Methods, Resources, Costs: Community leaders will participate through a role playing assignment within an assimilation game setting. Their assignment will be to make community decisions regarding the competitive attraction of industry. Assimilation process includes:

  1. Site Submittal
  2. Company Review
  3. Opportunity to address site and community deficiencies
  4. Opportunity to negotiate a deal
  5. Obtain final industrial firm commitment
At the end of the process a group discussion is held to throughly understand the key points of site selection and marketing.

Cost: Cost of material production and facilitator travel expense is appreciated but not demanded.
