Nonpoint Source Pollution - A Terminology and
Programming in Ohio

A. Situational Statement:
|
Water quality issues, problems and concerns
abound in Ohio. Few persons actually understand
the terminology associated with Nonpoint Source
Pollution in Ohio. What are the terms and
processes that we should be familiar with in order
to address water quality concerns at the local or
county level, as well as regional or state level?
|
|
B. Description/Educational Objectives:
|
This program provides a primer on Nonpoint
Source Pollution in Ohio with particular emphases
on terminology, processes, and organizing local
activities to address local problems. Students
should learn:
- Nonpoint source pollution terminology and
relevance to point source pollution.
- What are Best Management Practices (urban
and rural applications)?
- How to identify and address water quality
problem at the local level
- Current programming efforts to address
concerns

C. Suggested Time Required for Program; Time
of Year:
|
60-90 minutes, but program can be tailored for
specific audiences and times; anytime, but try for
winter or spring.
|
|
D. Audience and Level of Offering:
|
This program can be offered at any of several
levels (county, multi-county, district, state) for
audiences with at least an eighth-grade reading
level. Program has worked well with local
community groups, agricultural groups, and local
policy makers, as well as sanitarians.

|
E. Teaching Methods, Resources, Costs:
|
- Verbal, informal presentations supported
by slides and overheads. Some handout materials
provided.
- Depending on audience and length of
program, minor costs for copying.

|
