I. Title of Program or Issue:

Trees for the Holidays; Trees for the City

A. Situational Statement:

The ban of yard waste from landfills creates a challenge for communities. One of the largest volume contributors to yard waste is holiday trees and greens.

B. Description/Educational Objectives:

Develop community effort to reduce the number of holiday trees that are discarded by considering alternatives in: 1) live tree donation programs; 2) chipping programs; 3) habitat development programs.

C. Suggested Time Required for Program; Time of Year:

3-4 months; September/October - January

D. Audience and Level of Offering:

County ; Local officials; Christmas tree growers/retailers; nurseries; community household owners and renters

E. Teaching Methods, Resources, Costs:

Coalition building; marketing. Resources are secured through partnerships. Resource guide in each county office
