The video unit provides videotape, multi-media and satellite broadcast production services, and maintains the interactive classroom as well as IP based videoconferencing between Columbus, Wooster and other sites for faculty and staff in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, its related colleges and schools, Extension, and OARDC. Productions include training and educational broadcast and non-broadcast productions, public service announcements, news segments and stock footage reels, along with distance-education classes, and Extension outreach programming. Other services include audio taping for narration, videotape duplication, satellite program down-linking and videotaping, VHS editing, audiovisual equipment loan, videotape loan library, and video/audio equipment consultation.

Videotape and Multi-Media Production

The unit manager coordinates all videotape and multi-media production requests. All requests are subject to approval by the Section Head and the requesting party's department head. All videotapes and multi-media requests are produced on a first-come, first-serve basis, though no production will commence until the specialist provides a project outline, which will be followed up with a script. Script writing is provided on selected projects; these projects are selected at the discretion of the Video and News unit coordinators. Videotape and multi-media productions are produced on a no-charge-back basis for normal on-site projects. Expenses will be charged back to the client if there is an inordinate amount of travel or materials, or the production requires the use of outside vendors, i.e., extensive graphics/special effects, editing, talent/narration, and equipment rentals.

All videotape and multi-media duplication of the completed project is charged back to the client.

Satellite Productions/Distance Education Courses

All satellite productions and distant-education courses are coordinated by the video coordinator. All requests are subject to approval by the Section Head and the requesting party's department head. Satellite productions are produced on a limited basis, with the Section Head restricting the number of productions to three per department. Some exceptions are made depending upon the difficulty of the individual projects. Distance education courses are produced upon the approval of both the Section Head and Associate Dean of the College. Production of both satellite productions and distance education courses is not charged back, with the exception of satellite transponder and uplinking time, and outside studio costs. Other charge-back items would include inordinate amount of travel or materials, or if the program requires the use of outside vendors, i.e., extensive graphics/special effects, editing, talent/narration, equipment rentals. All videotape duplication of the completed project is charged back to the client.
