Some Tips for Parents
1. Be encouraging and supportive.

Mention talents or qualities they have which may be needed for success
in it.
2. Make your child aware of the
need for a plan for success:
* look at information about yourself
and careers of possible interest;
* set a career goal;
* think out a plan to reach that
goal;
* carry out the plan;
* check up to see if the plan
is working.
3. Help your child become more
aware of the career in which he or she is interested.
* library books;
* television shows, news items;
* newspaper, magazine articles;
* meeting people in the career
field;
* visiting career related sites.
4. Help your child develop values
and habits which will help in career success:
* honesty;
* responsibility;
* attention to detail;
* good attendance;
* getting along with others;
* working
up to potential.
5. Encourage your child to develop
hobbies or after-school interests which relate to career success:
* set limits on television, video
games;
* encourage association with a
positive set of friends;
* spend quality time reinforcing
their interests.
