Benjamin Franklin School Demonstration Gardens

Thursdays in the Garden Programs are offered by the Master Gardeners throughout the growing season at 10:00 in the demonstration gardens behind Ben Franklin School, 1905 Spring Rd., weather permitting. These programs are free and open to the public. Park in front of the school and walk back to the garden area.  Also, you may want to bring a folding chair. (See pictures of an herb program below)

All persons attending any of the Thursday OSU Extension Demonstrations at Ben Franklin are more than welcome to visit and ask questions of the Master Gardeners at any of the other demonstration gardens (Herb, Perennial and Vegetable).

In the Gardens this year:
July 19, 2007, 10:00 a.m. - Diagnostic walk. Cuyahoga County Master Gardeners are hosting a diagnostic walk with Michael Loos, Ohio State University Extension Educator, Horticulture at the Ben Franklin Demonstration Garden, July 19 at 10:00am.   Be on hand to identify and discuss the gardening issues of the day.

In the HERB garden this year:
July 26, 2007, 10:00 a.m. - Demonstration: Lemon-Scented Herbs. Lemon Balm is the herb of the year. Recipes to share and taste! Pictures from the 2007 program are below:

In the PERENNIAL garden this year:
August 9, 2007, 10:00 a.m. - Demonstration on perennials.

In the VEGETABLE garden this year:
September 6, 2007, 10:00 a.m. - Results from the growing season. There will also be a tasting of the vegetables, too.

Booths at Shows, Fairs and Farmers' Markets
Master Gardeners staff booths at various events in Cuyahoga County, including shows, fairs and farmers' markets. Visitors are welcome to visit and ask their horticultural questions. Often, the booth will be marked by an "Ask Your Master Gardener" banner.

Horticulture Telephone Hotline
The Hotline is staffed by Master Gardener volunteers to answer call-in questions. The Hotline is available by calling 216-429-8200 during the following hours:

Mondays, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Thursdays, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.




Library Programs
Master Gardeners annually prepare programs on a selected topic for presentation at libraries throughout the Cuyahoga County area. Recent topics have included "Container Gardens" and "Hydrangeas." The 2007-2008 topic is "Gardening Through the Seasons."
