Approval Process for Offering Academic Courses
At Locations Other Than the Columbus Campus
General
Any credit-bearing courses in CFAES must originate from one of the academic departments or the School of Environment & Natural Resources through the regular curriculum approval process. All courses offered with a CFAES Department or School of Environment & Natural Resources prefix and course number must be authorized by the Department Chair or School Director of the unit having jurisdiction over the course offering.
Agricultural Technical Institute (ATI)
Any CFAES (Non-ATI) course offered at ATI (either on site or through distance education) must be approved by the CFAES Department Chair or School of Environment & Natural Resources Director as well as the ATI Assistant Director of Academic Affairs. Approval of distance education courses would also involve negotiations regarding sharing of costs and revenue.
Ohio State University Regional Campuses
Courses offered at the regional campuses of Ohio State must be first approved by the CFAES Senior Associate Dean, then approval must be received by the CFAES Department Chair/School Director and the Dean of the Regional Campus (or designee).
In most cases, the regional campus will want to list the course with a regional campus call number so that it will receive the tuition subsidy. Agreement must be reached in advance between the CFAES Department Chair/School Director and the Regional Campus Dean (or designee), as to how/if the CFAES Department/School will be remunerated.
If the regional campus permits an CFAES Department/School to offer a course using a Columbus campus call number, agreement then must be reached in advance between the CFAES Department Chair/School Director and the Regional Campus Dean (or designee) regarding remuneration to the regional campus.
Courses Held at a Non-Ohio State Facility
CFAES Courses offered at an off-campus (non OSU) location (whether on site or through distance education technology) must be approved by the CFAES Department Chair/School Director and the CFAES Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs so they can be properly listed and classified for Board of Regents reporting.
