Twenty-Eight Managers Improve their Management Skills

The Equine ManagementExcel Teaching Team is comprised of county and state Extension Agents and Specialists who have an active interest in the Ohio horse industry. In addition to horse knowledge, team members bring expertise in the areas of small business management, human resource management, agricultural economics, marketing and equine science. The team combines their specialties with evaluations from previous seminars to develop an interesting and useful program to meet the changing needs of an equine business.

Stable owners and managers from across Ohio participated in and completed the introductory Managing For Success Workshop offered by the Equine ManagementExcel Team. This workshop was held February 11-13 on the OSU campus in Columbus. Participants learned to write vision and mission statements, created an organizational chart for their business and networked with other managers. In addition, they learned about marketing on the internet, took a tour of the OSU Galbreath Equine Center and held a discussion with an experienced stable manager.

Academy Farms manager Gayle Reveron was thrilled to participate and learn how to better manage her farm. She says the workshop was "an outstanding investment--A great value! It was a full semester of business management in 2 1/2 days!"
