EEET
Evaluation of Effective
Extension Teaching

Introduction/Background:

Extension program personnel are teachers.  Periodic assessment, or evaluation, of completed teaching improves the awareness of teaching effectiveness.

The EEET portion of this Web site provides the most up-to-date set of Evaluation of Effective Extension Teaching documents for Ohio State University Extension.  Most of this information on this site is included in portable document format (pdf) so that the user can down load the form, and make appropriate copies.

Please note that these forms do not measure the impact of teaching, but rather the quality of teaching.  Groups, Individuals, Peers and Subject Matter Experts may complete forms.  When used in conjunction with other kinds of information, these forms provide extensive, objective documentation of teaching effectiveness.

Data from Ohio State University Extension Instructors/Educators have been collected since 1991.  A database exists which allows comparisons among Extension Educators on nine teaching effectiveness variables.  The individual submitting EEET forms for tabulation can use the results for self-improvement, performance appraisal, or the promotion and tenure process.

The EEET summary on any given Extension Educator’s teaching is confidentially returned to that Educator.  It is the decision of the person using/submitting the EEET forms to share with others, e.g. supervisory staff.

  1. EEET instruments are intended for face-to-face teaching situation use.
  2. Provide separate EEET forms for each instructor OR use copies of the Multiple Instructors Form.
  3. If using the Multiple Instructor form, designate an educator for the columns (A,B,C,D) and put their names on the EEET form before copying and distributing.

  5. Do not delete, change, or alter the wording or the order of any item on the instruments.
  6. Identify someone (volunteer) other than the Instructor/ Educator (a participant, co-worker, or other person) to distribute the forms to the participants.
  7. Read the instructions with a sample question to participants.  Encourage participants to respond to each question.  Encourage participants to write comments and suggestions on the reverse side*.  Ask the participants not to identify themselves on the forms.
  8. Then leave the room and allow the volunteer to proceed to distribute and collect forms.
  9. Give participants at least ten (10) minutes to complete the instrument.
  10. Have the volunteer collect, place in envelope, seal, and mail the completed EEET forms and EEET Cover Sheet to:
