Procedure for Commercial Applicator License

  1. Send application form and DMA form to ODA with $35 fee.
  2. ODA will send a set of study materials to the applicator. Allow 4-6 weeks for materials to be delivered.
  3. Study the materials. New applicator schools are optional to help prepare for the test. Click here to see if any schools are scheduled.
  4. Select an exam date and site. The exam is offered around the state of Ohio each year.
  5. ODA will notify the applicator by mail with their exam results
    1. If the applicator did not pass an exam, they are able to retake the test. Only the exams not passed need to be retaken.
    2. If the applicator did pass the exams, they are a licensed applicator
  6. Upon passing appropriate examinations, commercial applicators are certified for 3 years, however, commercial applicators must still purchase a license each year.
  7. Instead of retesting at the end of 3 years, applicators may attend aproved recertification training sessions anytime during the 3 year period.
  8. How many credit hours do you need to become recertified?
    1. 1 hour Core
    2. 1/2 hour minimum update training for each category for which you hold certification
    3. Additionally, a minimum of 5 total hours training
