Trained Serviceperson

Who is a trained serviceperson?

  1. Employee of a commercial applicator (including public applicator)
  2. Instructed in proper use of equipment and all pesticides with which the employee is to work
  3. Unlicensed
  4. Works under instruction and control of a licensed applicator who is employed by the same company or agency.

What training is required?

  1. New employees must be trained before first occupational exposure to pesticides.
  2. Employee trained by reading trained serviceperson manual (OSU Bulletin 863) or equivalent training.
  3. OSU Bulletin 863 is free and available at your local OSU Extension office. Click here for a listing of offices.
  4. Verification of training must be kept in personnel records during employment and for 3 years after (pg. 6 of Bulletin 863 signed by employee & supervisor)

Direct Supervision

  • Licensed applicator must demonstrate instruction and control over trained serviceperson.
  • 25 miles or available within 2 hours when a pesticide application is being made.
  • Supervision must be a licensed applicator who is employed by the same company or agency as the trained serviceperson.
