WDI Licensing Process
Steps for becoming a licensed, wood-destroying insect inspector in the State of Ohio
If you do not have a commercial pesticide applicator license
Step 1: Complete 5-hour class for wood-destroying insect inspection
A mandatory 5-hour class is required for wood-destroying insect inspections (Category 12).
Step 2: Pass exams for an Ohio Commercial Pesticide Applicator License
You must pass the Core and Category 12 exams to receive an applicator license. To receive the study materials to prepare for the exam, submit the license application and fee for a pesticide applicator license. You will receive a packet of study materials for the exams. You may take the Core and Category 12 exams either before or after taking the class, but you must pass both before receiving your license.
Step 3: Obtain a business license if you own your business
If you own your business, you must obtain a Pesticide Business License and show proof of insurance for errors and omission. The business license applciation is on the same form as the applicator license.
If you do have a commercial pesticide applicator license
Step 1: Complete 5-hour class for WDI inspection and pass exam
This class will fill the requirement for the mandatory 5-hour class for wood-destroying insect inspections (Category 12). After completing the class, you will have the opportunity to take the Category 12 exam. The exam will cover the materials given out and covered during class. You must pass the exam and complete the training before Category 12 will be added to your license.
Step 2: Add errors and omissions to your business license
Your business lciense must have errors and omissions for wood-destroying insect inspections in the insurance requirement.
