Fair Booth Set Up Time

Fair booths may be set up between the following hours:
Saturday, September 16
9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
and
Sunday, September 17
9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Extension staff will be on fairgrounds
1:00—6:00 p.m. both days

Please note that booths must be in place by 6:00 p.m. on Sunday and that all booth decorations must follow the guidelines that have been established. (Advisors: Please review Fair Booth Information sheet for important guidelines/restrictions when planning your booth decorations.) Helpful hints for putting your booth together are also included on the back of the evaluation sheet that was included in the Advisor Packet you received at the beginning of the year. A few tips that past booth judges have mentioned are to make the required elements of your booth easy to locate and to be sure the educational exhibits are labeled with members' names.

Main purpose for 4-H booths: To display 4-H non-livestock projects with an educational exhibit or item made (a project book does not qualify for an educational exhibit). Fair booths should promote 4-H in a creative, educational way. 4-H livestock projects can be acknowledged, but should not be the main emphasis of a booth. Livestock is on display in the barn area. We would like to remind everyone that fair booths are to be a cooperative effort of both advisors and members. People appreciate seeing 4-H’ers putting up their booths.

The fair booth assignment list and guarding schedule were included with the mailed version of this newsletter to head advisors. Every club must participate in guarding to fill all of the time slots. If you did not specify a time to participate as booth guards, please give us a call.

No Health Papers Needed

Again this year, NO health papers will be required for any Junior Fair animal or animals transported within the state of Ohio for exhibition. This is in compliance with the ODA recommendation that all livestock be checked upon arrival to the fairgrounds, after 8:00 a.m. (September 17) by members of the Tuscarawas County Veterinary Academy. No unloading of any animal until 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 17 (except hogs on Saturday).

Please note that our goal is to have healthy animals on the fairgrounds. If you are having any problems with warts, ringworm, fungus, sore mouth, external parasites (lice, mange, ticks), etc., please contact your veterinarian and take care of it immediately. Animals showing evidence of any contagious disease will be asked to be removed immediately from the fairgrounds.

Fancy Poultry and Pullets

Fancy poultry, pullets, and turkeys need a form indicating that the birds have been secured from a pullorum/fowl typhoid free flock. Testing for the birds will be held on Wednesday, September 13 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Swine Arena.

Please contact the Extension office by September 1 if you are unable to secure a form so we know exactly how many birds we need to test. Broilers are exempt since they originated from the Orrville Hatchery.

Parking on the Fairgrounds

There will be free parking at the Armco Lot adjacent to the fairgrounds off Wooster Ave. Parking will be $5 for infield parking. Livestock exhibitors, commercial exhibitors, and advisors will be given a “P” pass. This pass will allow those individuals to park in the infield, while space is available.

We recommend that those individuals who need to bring feed onto the fairgrounds during the week do so in the morning. There is a greater chance of space in the morning than later in the day when parking may be full.

Trophies Still Needed

We are still in need of additional sponsors for livestock trophies for the fair. The cost is between $18-$25 and sponsors will be billed in October. Additional trophies needed are in the following specie: horse, dairy, rabbits, goats, and dogs.
