Sale & Buyer Information
Thanks to the Market
Livestock Committee, Cattle Association, Pork Producers, Junior Fair
Youth, and especially to Guy and Marie Zeigler and their family for an
excellent meal and program at the annual Market Livestock Buyers'
Banquet. We appreciate all of your efforts.
This year the Market
Livestock, Dairy, and Small Livestock Animal Committees will be hand
delivering passes to potential buyers.
When talking to potential
buyers, let them know what order the animals will sell.
Sale order this year for the Livestock Sale: Lambs - Steers - Hogs; for the Small Animal Sale: Products—Meat Pen Rabbits, Broilers, Market Dairy Goat. Let them know that you are a Jr. Fair
Exhibitor and ask them for their support. Here
are a few guidelines to keep in mind when contacting buyers.
1. Be polite! If you are visiting in person,
introduce yourself and give your reason for visiting. If the potential
buyer does not appear interested, thank them and leave. Do not
interrupt them while they are waiting on a customer or if they appear
busy.
2. Remember, you are inviting them to the sale
and inviting them to consider purchasing an animal/product. Let the
potential buyers know that you are a 4-H or FFA member, and that you
hope they will consider supporting the Junior Fair Livestock Sales.
3. It is not appropriate to pressure a buyer
into buying your animal.
4. Please remember that buyers do get several
letters and visits and cannot buy everyone’s animal.
5. Give the buyer the time and date of the
sales. Let them know they will be recognized through advertisements in
the newspaper and at the fair.
6. If you are writing to past or future buyers,
keep in mind that neatly written letters are a must!
7. When a buyer purchases your animal/product,
please tell them “thank you” personally as soon as possible. A thank
you note in a stamped envelope is required when picking up livestock
(steer, lamb, hog) and small livestock (rabbit, poultry, goat) checks
on Friday, October 13 from 1-5 p.m..
8. Dairy
checks will be distributed on
Monday, October 16 from 3-6 p.m.
9. If someone purchased your animal the previous
year, please give them a call or note and invite them to the sale again.
4-H members enrolled in
rabbits, goats and poultry did receive information in their individual
project folders regarding securing buyers and the sale
responsibilities. Please have members review these policies. Also, we
still need items to put in the blanket chests for the Small Animal Auction. Each
4-H club that has a member taking projects in these areas is required
to donate 7 items (mor if they can) before September
1. There are 7 blanket chests to be sold, so if the item is small then
perhaps the 4-H’er can donate 7 of the same item. The items may be
dropped off at the Floral Chalet in Sugarcreek or at the Extension
office. Please contact Gerry or
Denise at 330-852-4510 if you have questions.
