Job
Description
I. Qualifications
- Must
be at least 18 years
old.
- Current
lifesaving/guard certificate and/or water safety instructor
- Current
CPR certificate
- Basic
first aid
and safety training
- Experience
in working with youth teaching stroke correction and swim
techniques.
- Lifeguard
and/or waterfront management experience.
II. Responsibilities
- Directly
responsible to
the Program Director/Coordinator.
- Exact
coordination of
responsibilities is to be worked out in conferences between the
instructors
and the Program Director/Coordinator.
- Must
meet with
the Program Director/ Coordinator prior to camping season to become
familiar
with swim area, supplies etc. and begin preparing lesson plans.
- Should
take initiative
to share creative ideas with the Program Director/Coordinator.
- Shall
supervise all activity at the waterfront during classes and general
swim period.
- Shall
be on duty and
assist with special activities at the waterfront, such as water
carnival,
as scheduled by each camp.
- Shall
be on duty for
day camp and other programs utilizing water front facilities in
coordination
and cooperation through the Program Director/Coordinator.
- Be at
swimming area 15
minutes or more (as needed) before instruction periods to have tools,
supplies and area ready for activities.
- Supervise
and utilize
counselors in the swimming area.
- Will
jointly prepare
and present a swimming orientation to campers at the beginning of each
camp
session.
- This
orientation will
include:
- General
swimming rules
and procedures for swimming.
- Explanation
of the buddy
system
- Safety
measures to be
used
- A
swim test to determine
each camper's swimming ability.
- Responsible
for
keeping daily inventory of all waterfront supplies and equipment
condition
and need for supplies.
- Maintain
equipment and
supplies in proper working order, in an orderly, clean manner.
- Maintain
waterfront area
in a clean and orderly condition.
- Is
jointly responsible
with other swimming instructor(s) for the overall health and safety of
campers at the waterfront.
- These
statements on duties
are not to be taken as the final and only work to be done by staff
members. Frequently it is necessary for individual staff members to
cooperate on a
project, which is, important for the continued smooth operation
of the
camp. Such duties will be under the direction of the Camp Executive
Director.
III. All Staff and Directors
- Set an example
by conducting themselves in a proper manner.
- Observe a habit
of cleanliness
of self and quarters.
- Be present
promptly at meal times.
- Participate in
camp activities
when possible.
- There shall be
no alcoholic beverages on Camp Whitewood grounds at anytime.
- Staff Certified
in C.P.R. may
have to administer resuscitation by means of a mechanical airway.
- Complete a
written evaluation and
final inventory at the end of camping season.
