Job
Description
I. Qualifications
- Must be at least
18 years old or
older.
- Current
Lifeguard certification
required and Water Safety Instructor and/or equivalent related
watercraft
- Previous
experience in working
with youth.
- Basic first aid
and safety training.
- Previous
lifeguard and/or waterfront
management experience.
- Boating,
canoeing and other watercraft experience.

II. Responsibilities
- Is directly
responsible to the Program Director.
- Must meet with
the Program Director/
Coordinator prior to camping season to become familiar with the
watercraft
supplies, etc. and to begin preparing lesson plans.
- Is responsible
for boating instruction program
- Is responsible
for the opening
and closing of the boating area including equipment inventory and
equipment
condition reports at the beginning and ending of the camp season.
- Is jointly
responsible with other
waterfront instructor(s) for the overall health and safety of campers
at
the waterfront.
- Is responsible
for the daily set-up
of the boating area and for storage/care of watercraft equipment.
- Must be present
in program area
15 minutes before start of class time.
- Will supervise
counselors assisting
during boating time.
- Shall uphold
established, posted,
boating rules.
- Will prepare and
present a boating
orientation to campers at the beginning of each camp session. This
orientation
will include:
- general rules
and procedures for
boating.
- explanation of
reasons for life
jackets and other safety measures to be used.
- Shall supervise
all activity at
the boating area during classes and general free time periods.
- Shall be on duty
and assist with
special activities at the waterfront, such as water carnival, as
scheduled
by each camp.
- Shall be on duty
and assist with
day camp and other special programs utilizing the waterfront facilities
in
coordination and cooperation through the Program Director/Coordinator.
- These statements
on duties are
not to be taken as the final and only work to be done by staff members.
Frequently it is necessary for individual staff members to cooperate on
a project, which
is important for the continued smooth operation of the camp. Such
duties
will be under the direction of the camp Executive Director.
III. All Staff and Directors
- Set an example
by conducting themselves in a proper manner.
- Observe a habit
of cleanliness
of self and quarters.
- Be present
promptly at meal times.
- Participate in
camp activities
when possible.
- There shall be
no alcoholic beverages on Camp Whitewood grounds at anytime.
- Staff Certified
in C.P. R. may
have to administer resuscitation by means of a mechanical airway.
- Complete a
written evaluation and
final inventory at the end of camping season.
