Ag Accidents and Rescue: The agricultural industry presents many hazard to people of all ages. The 13 videos listed below discuss a wide range of farm accidents. An overview of the agricultural industry and injuries common to it are discussed in the "Introduction" video. The videos that follow contain key points that farmers need to keep in mind every time they leave the house, in order to reduce injuries on the farm.

The importance of safety precautions while operating tractors are emphasized. With the help of actors, accidents are simulated to demonstrate inherent dangers of unsafe tractor operation. This program discusses three major accident types: passengers, power take-off and tractor roll-over. The rules that were broken in each one of these accidents and how each activity could have been accomplished in a safe manner is explained.

This video emphasizes the importance of paying attention to and analyzing "close calls" or "near miss" incidents. The near miss incident can be a warning of a potentially more serious injury to come or an indicator of the overall safety attitude of the employees and the company. Practical advice on ways to avoid accidents for mower operators, by-standers, and the driving public.

149 -- Farm Equipment Safety

The safety procedures explained in the VideoActive tape can prevent most, if not all, farm equipment accidents. The presentation will educate the operator on safety techniques for many pieces of equipment, such as tractors, fuel storage, hydraulics equipment and PTOs. An Instructor of Agricultural Education will discuss proper safety procedures and personal accounts of how these measures can save lives. Interviews with farmers, fire and rescue officials and other experts are included to teach the importance and need for farm equipment safety education. A supplement is included.

The 22-minute training video focuses on basic rules to help ensure the safety of not only the operator but also other persons that may be in the vicinity, especially in the case of roadside mowing. Areas covered include equipment start up, operation, maintenance and shut down. The complementary 12-page guidebook highlights key messages in the video with a Q and A format, and employers can use the guidebook contents for testing employee comprehension.

Demonstrations and Displays

Rollover Rover
The Rollover Rover was built for educational purposes to address the alarming number of tractor related injuries and deaths in Ohio and around the country. This 1/4 scale tractor demonstrates safe versus unsafe tractor operatons. It is designed to be visible to crowds of 10 to 40 people, while being operated by one individual. A seat belt and removeable rollbar are added to show the benifits of ROPS.
