Mariko Lauber
Adjunct Faculty
My name is Mariko Lauber. I have a PhD in Animal Welfare and an Agricultural Science degree. In Australia, Agricultural Science is a combined plant and animal science degree with a bit of farm management and economics thrown into the mix. I currently work for the Victorian Department of Primary Industries as the Animal Welfare Education and Training Officer and I spend most of my time writing training courses and teaching people about animal welfare. I grew up on the rural fringe of Melbourne, Victoria, and had many pets. My sister and I rode horses at Pony Club and in competition and we had 2 dogs each, a cat and a number of birds. When I got older I became interested in farming and used to buy and rear calves as a hobby. I even had a Jersey cow for a pet for a number of years. I now live not far from my family home on a large suburban block and my husband and I have a beautiful little dog and a mischievous cat that we love and adore very much. My whole life revolves around animals and I see a great need for society to understand just how important animals are to us and because of that just how important it is for us to treat them with care and respect. So come along to our classes and share your understanding of the importance of animals in our society with us.
