OBT Sets 'Preview' Open House
The Ohio Bull Test (OBT) committee has set Tuesday, February 13 as the date of the annual Open House and 'Preview' of the bulls. This coincides with OBT's 84 day weigh-in and extensive data collection.
Currently there are 129 bulls on-test at the OBT station in Belle Valley. The 84 day weigh-in and collection of frame score, scrotal circumference, pelvic area, ribeye size and rib fat data will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue throughout the day.
All interested cattlemen are invited stop in during the day, walk the barn, reviewing what many believe to be the best set of bulls nominated to OBT in years, or simply observe the data collection process. OBT staff and OSU Beef Team members will be present to answer questions regarding the significanse of the data being collected and how it might relate to herd bull selection. All cattlemen present between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. will enjoy a hamburger fry, compliments of the OBT committee and Ohio Cattlemen's Association.
Approximately the top two thirds of the bulls based on their OBT performance index will sell during the 32nd annual Ohio Bull Test Sale on Saturday, April 21, 2001. The Ohio Bull Test is a program of the Ohio Cattlemen's Association held in cooperation with Ohio State University Extension and the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. Visit the OBT website as the date nears (http://www.ag.ohio-state.edu/~bulltest) or contact Justin Lahmers at OCA (614.873.6736) for more details.
