Career expo student information General information

You have had a busy day interacting with representatives from many companies. Congratulations! This is an important first step in your internship/co-op or job search. But, what to do next? Use the following tips to help you continue to make this career expo fair work for you!

Before you leave the Expo
Double check - did you talk to representatives from every company you had targeted? Did you get business cards from each representative? Now is the time (while it's still fresh in your mind) to jot down some notes in your career expo booklet or handout about follow-up time lines, position titles, etc. for each company.

Within a week after the Expo
Go through all the information you have collected and prioritize companies according to your level of interest. Starting with the "most interesting" list, send "thank you for coming to the Expo and taking time to talk to me" letters.

Last but not Least

Keep in contact with companies. Use the information you gathered from each company about their own time frame to plan your follow-up. You can contact the companies initially by letter or by phone within the appropriate time frame set by each company representative. Do some research! During your follow-up with the company representatives you may want to ask for a list of alumni who currently work at the company. This provides you with an opportunity to set up some informational interviews, and get to know the company from a personal perspective. It may also uncover some informal networks that can assist you with your employment search.
