This year, another milestone was reached: Mr. William H. Price II, of Cody, Wyoming made an investment of $1.5 million in “The Sanford G. Price and Isabelle P. Barbee Chair in Teaching, Advising, and Learning.” His dedication to this program led the way for the college to once again demonstrate our value in quality teaching, and to provide a vehicle to build and improve what is already in place. Dr. L.H. Newcomb, Senior Associate Dean was named as the chair in June, and the first teaching seminar was held in June. Unfortunately, Mr. Price died in June, but we will forever uphold the value of his investment through outstanding teaching, advising and learning, and we will continue our partnership of mutual interests with his family.

Two other campaigns that will build and enhance programs at Ohio State - those for the Nationwide Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center, and the Olentangy River Wetland Research and Education Building are well underway. When completed, these two facilities will benefit citizens across Ohio and beyond, and ensure excellent work and research on a comprehensive level.

A $12 million capital campaign, to build a 4-H Center on The Ohio State University campus in Columbus, has reached 70% of goal. To date, $8.5 million has been raised in gifts and pledges, including a combined pledge of $6 million from the Nationwide Insurance Foundation and the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, for whom the Center was named on September 7, 2002, during a ceremonial ground breaking.

The campaign is under the capable leadership of Marilyn Johnson, honorary chair, Jim Dailey, steering committee chair, Dan Evans, corporate chair, Tiney McComb, individuals chair, John Foltz, organizations chair, Clarence Cunningham, Extension Family chair, and Nancy Patterson, Friends of 4-H chair.

The Center will be the first of its kind on a land grant university campus to be totally devoted to positive youth development training and programming. Features will include:
The home of Ohio 4-H
Flexible multi-purpose space for hands-on program opportunities for youth and volunteers
Educational conference and classroom facilities
State-of-the-art technology that will link the Center to Ohio’s 88 counties, the nation, and to the world.

For further information, to make a pledge, or to find out about other naming opportunities within the Center, contact Bill McCleery, Campaign Director, at 614-247-7624 or mccleery.8@osu.edu.

The Olentangy River Wetland Research and Education Building is 80% complete with an estimated move in date of late January 2003. Designed to strengthen and consolidate existing teaching, research, and service activities, this new facility will feature an operations theatre for real-time data collection, a sample preparation room, laboratories, research library, a conference room and office space, and a lobby for displays.

Naming opportunities still exist. Please contact Leigh Briggs, Development Officer @
