Meet the holder of the Price Chair
Dr. L. H. Newcomb

The Sanford G. Price and Isabelle P. Barbee Chair in Teaching, Advising, and Learning

Dr. L. H. Newcomb has been appointed to the Sanford G. Price and Isabelle P. Barbee Chair in Teaching, Advising, and Learning. As senior associate dean and director of academic programs for the college, Dr. Newcomb provides leadership for undergraduate and graduate programs and assists Dean Bobby Moser in envisioning and implementing the college’s various initiatives.

Since earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agricultural education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a Ph.D. in vocational education from The Ohio State University, Dr. Newcomb has been an agricultural educator for more than 33 years. Prior to his current appointment, he was professor and chair of the Department of Agricultural Education.

From 1994 to 2001, he co-led Ohio’s W. K. Kellogg Foundation-funded “Project Reinvent,” a visioning and organizational change effort whereby college faculty, staff, and external constituents work together to examine and improve organizational cultures and practices.

As the Price Chair, Dr. Newcomb directs and encourages research on teaching and learning. Focusing on the nature of undergraduate students and their learning preferences, this research culminates in recommendations about the teaching and advising practices that are best for students – information that is shared with faculty university-wide. In addition, Dr. Newcomb conducst faculty teaching and advising workshops.
