On-Campus Recruiting

On-campus recruiting begins in early October and continues through June. Each year employers conduct interviews at CFAES CSC with OSU College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Science students. Employers choose one of the following methods when scheduling interviews with students registered with CFAES CSC.

QUALIFIED OPEN: Qualified registrants (i.e., who meet the employer's selection criteria) are eligible to signup for interviews during a specified range of dates, on a space-available basis.

PRE-SELECT: In advance of the interview, qualified registrants submit their resumes to the employer during a specified range of dates. After reviewing the resumes, the employer decides whom to invite to interview. Invited candidates are eligible to signup for interviews during a specified range of dates. If any open interview times remain after this, alternate candidates are eligible to signup.

To make sure you meet the required deadlines associated with an employer's visit, login daily to Hireabuckeye to check your recruiting activities.

No show policy:

A student is assigned No Show status for either of these reasons:

  • Cancels a scheduled interview less than two working days prior to the interview date. (Two working days’ notice allows the CFAES Career Services office to provide an interview opportunity for another student, inform the employer in advance, and produce an up-to-date packet for the interviewer’s campus visit.)
  • Does not attend a scheduled interview.

First no show

Ineligible to schedule additional on-campus interviews until apology letter is submitted. NOTE: any previously scheduled interview appointments should be kept or canceled appropriately.

To remove the hold from your account, write a letter of apology to the recruiter.

  • Bring the letter and a stamped envelope, addressed to the recruiter, to CFAES Career Services Office for review; we will mail it for you.
  • Allow at least two working days for the hold to be removed from your account.

Second no show

Ineligible to schedule additional on-campus interviews for the remainder of the quarter.

  • Allow at least two working days for the hold to be removed from your account after the end of the quarter.

Third no show

Ineligible to schedule on-campus interviews for one calendar year. NOTE: any previously scheduled interview appointments should be kept or canceled appropriately.

Why does the CFAES Career Services Office have this policy?

Although the vast majority of late cancellations are due to unanticipated events (illness/emergency), the consequences are the same whether there is a legitimate excuse or not:

  • Lost opportunities for other students.
  • Loss of potential hires for employers.
  • Wasted time for employers who travel and take time away from work to interview on campus.
  • Potential long-term damage, such as OSU being removed from an employer’s targeted campus list.

If a late cancellation is unavoidable, call CFAES Career Services Office (614/292-6891) as soon as possible. Send your apology letter within 48 hours, mention the reason, and request a telephone interview. A sincere expression of regret and interest in the company might convince the employer to give you a second chance!
