The Ohio
Agricultural Research and Development Center is the premier
center for agricultural research in Ohio. The Center is directed
by Steven A. Slack, Ph.D., and is comprised of 274 research
scientists engaged in over 400 research projects. These researchers
are located on the Ohio State University campus in Columbus
(200 faculty members) and on the OARDC campus in Wooster (74
faculty members). The OARDC manages over 7100 acres in Ohio,
including 2000 acres in Wayne County, and conducts research
at eleven locations throughout the state.
The OARDC was created as the Ohio Agricultural Experiment
Station in 1882, and moved from its original location on Ohio
State's Columbus campus to Wooster in 1892. OARDC faculty
share academic appointments with departments in the College
of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, the College
of Biological Sciences, the College of Human Ecology, and
the College of Veterinary Medicine.
