Keys for Leaders

Keys for Leaders is an interactive series of "fact sheets" designed to help adults who work with youth. With each of the eight topics discussed, there is an activity called Keying In which can help you apply the material to your own situation. For each one you fill out and send in, you can get a prize! We invite you to explore the following topics:

1. What is 4-H Youth Development? What Makes It Different
from Other Youth Programs – key points in the 4-H approach to working
with young people;

2. Getting Started – things to keep in mind when starting up a youth
group or club;

3. Nuts and Bolts of Planning Your Club Activities — Things to consider to make every activity a success;

4. Conducting 4-H Meetings — if you follow these tips, your activity definitely
won't feel like school!

5. Planning Your Program — ideas to enhance success if you need to put together
A whole series of activities for youth over a period of time;

6. Ages and Stages of Youth Development — important differences in youth
in different age groups can affect how well your activities work;

7. Making Learning Fun and Exciting for Young People – variety is indeed
the "spice of life" in keeping youth involved as active learners;

8. Developing Assets In and Around Young People — providing these inner
strengths and outer supports can be critical for youth.

We hope these Keys will help 4-H advisors, Scouting Leaders, educators, church youth group leaders, and community youth development professionals unlock the power of youth. To get started, hit the Key below!
