January is here already, hard to believe that it is 2006.  One good thing about January is that with each passing day there is added day light.  Our minds start to wonder what we will plant in our favorite garden (mine naturally is what rose bush do I want to add)  It envisions the first bloom of our favorite bulb.  We look through mounds of catalogs that have filled our mail boxes wondering how I got on all these mailing lists.  How can I plant all of these wonderful new plants without injuring myself or my bank account.
December was a wonderful month for my family.  Our tradition is to go out one Saturday afternoon and find a Christmas tree which will fill our house with a beauty while waiting for the arrival of Santa.  Naturally we pick the coldest day which is ok because youfind one quickly this way.  Each year I try to find a new farm to pick the perfect tree to cut down.  This year we headed west on 36 and found our tree just outside of Delaware.  The wonderful thing about going to a tree farm is that I always find the people so friendly.  They are there to help you with the special selection.  Answering all your questions, filling your belly with warm cider or hot chocolate and naturally they have a cookie or two for you to enjoy. For many the time of cutting a live tree is a thing of the past with the continued marketing of a variety of artificial trees.  For me Christmas is not the same without the beauty of a live tree.  There is nothing more enjoyable than the smell of a fresh tree.  I believe my children will always have these memories which we will talk about for year to come.  It is my joy to see them choose the tree, help with the cutting and then to get it home and decorate it with all the ornaments that we have accumulated over the years.  They always place the ones they have made first.
I hope that your Christmas season was as enjoyable as mine and I look forward to hearing a story or two at our January meeting.
