WEEKLY CROP PROGRESS AND PEST REPORT

 

 For Erie, Huron and Lorain Counties as of July 10th, 2006

 

Weather and Soil Moisture

Localized rains for much of week, soil moisture from adequate to surplus.

 

Corn

Best is V12 to V14, tassels should be within the next 10 days, uneven stands of corn evident after flooding from previous weeks.  25% Excellent, 45% Good, 15% Fair,

15% Poor.

 

Soybeans

Early soybeans are in bud, some farmers just finished replanting after flooding, flood damage does not look as bad as thought, 20% Excellent, 40% Good, 20% Fair, 20% Poor.

 

Wheat

Wheat harvest started and some areas area 20% complete, harvest moisture a concern (most coming out at 14.5% to 18.0%), some still down from flooding episode.

 

Forages

1st cutting completed or nearly so, most just starting 2nd cutting.

 

Fruits and Vegetables

Strawberries 95% harvested, first cling peaches will be at market soon, peach crop seems good to excellent, apples crop respectable.
