Beginners Grant Group

Needed

  • 8 - 10 individuals from across the state and program areas
Purpose

To increase the confidence and strengthen skills related to proposal writing, contract development, and project management among Extension professionals.  Examples of specific skills are:

  • Developing proposal ideas
  • Identifying possible funding sources
  • Writing and submitting proposals and contracts of all types
  • Project renewal and continuation
  • Budget development
  • Offer materials and assistance appropriate for and helpful to beginners and novices
  • Utilize a multiplier approach to increase exposure of subject matter and impact of efforts
Target group
  • Beginners uncertain about how to begin proposal and contract development
  • Novices who have dabbled a little in proposal and contract development
Qualifications: Individuals should be:
  •  Enthusiastic
  •  Expressed interest in grant writing
  •  Strong writing & other communication skills
  •  holistic program organizational skills.
Types of involvement
This will be a "users group."  They will assist in identifying the kinds of materials and assistance that will be helpful.  More specifically, they will:
  • Review and react to materials that are developed (including specifics of first time grant program)
  • Support and promote educational opportunities related to proposal writing, contract development and project management 
  • Assist with arrangements for district in-services
  • Make referrals among their co-workers for individual and group training
Benefits
As part of the group that assists with development of the curriculum, they will have the opportunity to:
  • Co-author sections of the curriculum
  • Develop their own skills
  • Receive more individualized assistance with their own needs
Time commitment
  • Approximately 30 - 40 hours over the next year

  • Include as a key objective in the plan of work.
