Ph.D. Advising Guide: Areas of Emphasis

The Ph.D. program in the department offers two emphasis areas: Extension Education or Agricultural Education in the Public Schools. The program for each student is individualized to meet the needs and goals of the individual.

A. Extension Education

The suggested extension core is a group of courses that are recommended to provide the necessary subject matter that will aid future extension professionals outside of their technical (Agriculture/Home Economics) subject matter area to more fully understand the broad scope of the Cooperative Extension Service.

Individual or Advanced Studies and Internships may be arranged with individual faculty members for unique scholarly endeavors not encompassed by existing courses. A compendium of some of the studies and/or internships faculty members are interested in directing is available in a notebook in 207 AA. Students may design other learning experiences. Students would obtain the concurrence of a faculty member to direct the study or internship and obtain a signed "OSU Course Enrollment Permission" form at the time of enrollment, and complete, with the faculty member, an outline for the learning activity on a "Developing an Individual Study in Agricultural Education" form. This form is available from the secretary to the Chair of the Department. Internship materials are available in the notebook.
