Graduate Programs: Academic Standards

  1. Academic action: Cumulative point-hour ratio (CPHR)

Students are expected to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA throughout their studies.

Graduate students who are on academic probation may not register for the subsequent quarter until grades from the current quarter are known. They must register in consultation with their advisor.

Should a student be denied further registration, but desire to re-enroll, a petition for reinstate-ment to the Rural Sociology Graduate Program will be made to the Rural Sociology Graduate Studies Committee. The petition will be accomplished by a letter of recommendation from the faculty advisor.

  2. Academic action: Reasonable progress

If the academic advisor and/or the advisory committee of a graduate student finds that a student is not making reasonable progress toward a degree objective, the advisor and/or committee may recommend to the Rural Sociology Graduate Studies Committee that the graduate student be denied further registration. If, in the opinion of the advisor, the student is making satisfactory progress in CPHR, then the student may be allowed to register for the subsequent quarter.
