Rural Sociology Minor
The minor in Rural Sociology provides: (1) an understanding of sociological concepts important to the analysis of change in rural societies, (2) an understanding of trends in the structure of rural societies, (3) an understanding of the influence of social and cultural factors on rural and agricultural development as well as the impact of development on rural groups and cultures, and (4) opportunities to apply sociological concepts to specific case studies related to rural and agricultural development, population, and natural resource/environmental issues.
The Rural Sociology minor serves students whose interests include the sociological dimensions of agriculture, rural population, rural development, and natural resources and the environment.
The Rural Sociology Minor consists of 20 hours selected as follows:
Required: 5 hours Credit Hours
RURL SOC 662 Diffusion of Innovations (5 credit hours)
Students must select an additional 15 hours from the following five credit hour courses:

RURL SOC 622, Amish Society
RURL SOC 666, Rural Poverty
RURL SOC 678, Women in Rural Society
RURL SOC 697, Study at a Foreign Institution

Restrictions and General Information
1. A minimum overall CPHR for courses comprising the minor shall be 2.0.
2. A minor should be declared at the time a student accumulates 90 hours.
3. A student may not double count courses between the minor and other requirements except where approved by the University.
4. Courses taken on a pass/non pass basis may not be applied to the minor.
