A Huron County
Tradition
since 1925
The Conger Family has been providing 30 acres of land for the use of Huron County youth since 1925. The Conger's receive $1.00 per year lease money from Camp Conger, Inc. The camp ground area is leased to the camp corporation on a 99 year lease.Thousands of citizens have enjoyed Camp Conger at 4-H Camps, church gatherings, and for many other occasions. Help keep the tradition alive.A little history ... Nestled on the banks of the west branch of the Huron River, Camp Conger offers a unique blend of rustic camping combined with some modern conveniences. The first Huron County 4-H Camp was held in 1925. A tent was used for a dining hall and the food was prepared outdoors. A pit was dug and filled with ice for refrigeration. Campers stuffed wool bags with straw from the Conger farm for mattresses.Directions:The first permanent structure was the kitchen, built in 1927. The dining hall was added in 1928. Cabins were built in 1929, 1931, 1935, 1958, 1967, 1968, 1977.
Facilities at Camp Conger are continually being upgraded to insure the integrity of the camp. Dedicated in 1999, the Lewis and Florence Conger Hall contains a dining facility, institutional kitchen, modern restroom facilities, showers and a general storage area. The two 24 capacity boys cabins were replaced in 2000 with two 36 capacity cabins. The four 24 capacity girls cabins were replaced in 2001 with three 36 capacity cabins. The staff/storage cabin was also replaced in 2001. Four spacious staff rooms were added in 2002.
The most recent improvement is the renovation of the pond, Wells Lake, in 2002. Wells Lake has been dredged, the spillways have been improved, the beach has been enlarged, cattails have been removed and the entire bank has been stoned.
