Source: Jill Eversole Nolan, OSU Extension, Family & Consumer Sciences jnolan@ehe.osu.edu 614.688.5378 Hi Everyone,
A beautiful day . . . and more to come!
It has been a busy week with a very successful Dining with Diabetes (DWD) in-service behind us. Congrats to the planning committee that offered a valuable professional development opportunity earlier this week. There was great participation from both Extension and Health professionals. Valuable partnerships were cultivated and/or strengthened.
Today, the Legislative Luncheon hosted many legislators who were impressed with our displays and engaged with local volunteers telling their personal stories about how Extension has impacted their communities.
Tomorrow, the County Extension Directors gather on campus to begin the discussion how the EERAs will be staffed and operated. It is an exciting time to explore new ways of offering our services. We will begin to focus in our program efforts and experiment with innovative ways to deliver our services. On May 11th, our FCS Educators and campus-based professionals will spend the day exploring how our FCS program can best work in our new Extension structure.
To end the week, many of us will be traveling to Cleveland to participate in the Ohio Family Consumer Sciences (OAFCS) annual meeting. OSU Extension has several professionals who are in OAFCS leadership roles and/or presenting at the conference. This conference is a valuable opportunity to network with our many FCS partners across Ohio.
Yes, a busy week for all of us . . . it is an affirmation how important our FCS efforts are to the system and to the citizens of Ohio. We are truly making a difference in people’s lives!
Best wishes . . . and enjoy all the pleasures spring generously shares!
Jill

On May 11 from 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., FCS Educators will gather in the Ag Admin Auditorium to begin defining new ways of delivering programming in the EERA model. Campus specialists and program professionals, including the Community Nutrition team, will also participate. Together we will discuss ways of working effectively in our new structure, brainstorm about programming efforts, meet in EERAs to identify needs and educator expertise, and explore ways to cover FNP and EFNEP requirements/obligations. All FCS Educators are strongly encouraged to participate. This is an important planning day you will not want to miss. Registration information will be sent via email in the near future; there will be need to register but no fee will be required (cost recovery dollars will cover program material and food expenses).

EFNEP began in Ohio and other 1862 Land-Grant Institutions in 1969, which means it celebrates 40 years of success in 2009. EFNEP uses peer educators from the communities they support to provide limited-resource families and youth with interactive research-based programming. Over the last 40 years, Ohio EFNEP peer educators have reached at least 800,000 families and youth with nutrition, resource management, food safety, and physical activity information.

“Loving yourself unconditionally requires self-compassion. Once armed with a high level of self-awareness and self-acceptance, it is much easier to regulate yourself and your feelings. Your anger and emotional outbursts usually result when someone penetrates to the core of what you do not like about yourself or still cannot accept. By accepting yourself just as you are, you are no longer vulnerable to these hurts and are prepared to interact authentically with others who come into your life " your family, friends, coworkers, even complete strangers. Free of having to pretend to be someone you are not, you can focus on your passions and fulfilling your dreams (George & Sims, 2007, p. 82-83).”
