In the summer of 1999, 30 youth from at-risk neighborhoods who participate in Neighborhood Community Gardens were provided scholarships to the Gardens & Friends Day Camp.  Total enrollment in the camp was over 200. 

The gardening and nutrition curriculum at the Gardens & Friends Day Camp was designed and taught by OSU Extension Nutrition Educators.  Toledo Botanical Garden staff utilized the curriculum design to teach youth in a garden that was planted to provide a continuing vegetable harvest each week of the summer.

The OSU Extension Neighborhood Community Garden Educator coordinated the scholarship selection, notification, transportation, and follow-up in the Neighborhood Community Gardens where the youth gardened.

This report is the evaluation and review of the activities resulting from the Gardens and Friends Day Camp grant provided by the Ohio 4-H Foundation and Betty Montgomery-State Attorney General.
