Angus breeders honor Van Stavern

Bobby Van Stavern, well-known Ohio State University professor of animal science, was recently honored by the American Angus Association (AAA) with induction into the Angus Heritage Foundation. The Foundation honors those who have dedicated their time and effors to the improvement and advancement of the Angus Breed. Van Stavern was honored along with three other individuals at the AAA's Annual Banquet Nov. 13.

Van Stavern received a framed Angus Heritage Foundation certificate and his name was engraved on a permant Heritage Foundation plaque in the AAA headquarters in St. Joseph, Mo.

Van Stavern, professor emeritus of animal science at OSU, is an internationally recognized expert in the meat science field. He was involved with the development of the Certified Angus Beef program and instrumental in establishing the CAB carcass specifications which directly lead to a high quality CAB product. Van Stavern has been a leader in the classroom and in the meat lab. During the past 20 years, he has written several books and numerous articles on meat science. In 1998, he received the Harry Rudnick Educator Award from the North American Meat Processors Association for his contributions to the meat industry.
