Howard J. “Chip” Newton has joined The Smithfield Ham and Products Co. as
vice president of national accounts, according to a news release. He will
also serve as Midwest regional sales manager and will be based in Columbus,
Ohio.
Prior to joining Smithfield, Newton has held various sales positions at
Worthington Foods, Sara Lee Meats, Van Den Bergh Foods/Lipton and General
Foods.
Founded in 1917, The Smithfield Ham and Products Co. produces barbecues,
stews and sauces for foodservice, retail grocery and club warehouse
customers. Its brands include Smithfield, James River, Smitty, Virginia’s
Choice and Doughties. The company is a unit of The Smithfield Companies Inc.,
a diversified producer of specialty food products headquartered in
Portsmouth, Va.
