J.T.M. Awarded Inaugural Weeb Ewbank Award by Joshua Lipsky Harrison, Ohio-based J.T.M. FoodGroup has been awarded the first annual Weeb Ewbank Award. Jim Breech, former Cincinnati Bengal place kicker and president of the Cincinnati chapter of the NFL Alumni, presented the award to J.T.M. Breech said that the 2000 Weeb Ewbank Award would be an annual award given to a company that embodies the Caring for Kids theme throughout the year by making significant contributions to the community. The plaque awarded to J.T.W. reads: “Your generosity has enhanced the lives of many.” “We're just following the master plan of our company,” said Tony Maas, J.T.M.'s president, in accepting the award. “We will continue to help, to give and to give back within the community. ”The award is named in honor of football coach Wilbur “Weeb” Ewbank, an Oxford, Ohio, native who guided the American Football League's upstart New York Jets and quarterback Joe Namath to the NFL championship in 1969, defeating his old team, the Baltimore Colts, 16-7, in Super Bowl III. Ironically, he had directed the Colts to the NFL championship in 1959. Ewbank, who was a standout quarterback, captain of the baseball team and a basketball forward while a student at Miami University, died at his Oxford home in 1998 at the age of 91.
