White Castle Breaks Ground on New Meat Plant in Ohio by Joshua Lipsky Slyders anyone? Columbus, Ohio-based White Castle broke ground last Thursday on a new meat processing facility in Zanesville, Ohio, near the Zanesville Municipal Airport. “We are currently at or near capacity in our other two facilities in Indiana. We feel given our current state of business and our projected needs, now is the right time to open a third meat processing plant,” said Bill Ingram, White Castle president and CEO. “The location is perfect to help support our East Coast restaurant operations and possibly other markets in the future. ”The new Zanesville plant will be about 34,000 square feet and have a 15-million pound capacity. According to the schedule, the plant is scheduled to open at the end of the 2001 summer. The two other White Castle processing facilities are in Lebanon and Orleans, Ind. These two facilities have been responsible for providing White Castle's 348 restaurants with its beef. Designing and engineering the new facility is Webber Smith & Assoc. of Lancaster, Pa.
