Ohio farmers, consumer groups start new food association by Joshua Lipsky A new association of Ohio-based food, farm, environmentalists and consumer groups is being formed to help farmers by promoting an agriculture and food system that will be "ecologically sound, economically viable and socially responsible." The Ohio Food and Farm Network consists of 13 nonprofit organizations and community initiatives, including the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association, Ohio Environmental Council and Chefs Collaborative. Further details about the network will be announced at this year's Farm Aid, a concert designed to raise money to keep family on their farms. The concert, which started in 1985, will be in Columbus this year. "Building links between consumers and local family farmers is a part of what Farm Aid is all about," said Ted Quaday, Farm Aid's program director. "There is a growing trend emphasizing locally produced, family farm products." This article reprinted with permission from Meat Marketing and Technology Magazine.
