NavigatingMidlife

Ice Breaker Activity
  1. Divide participants into 3 or 4 groups according to the month in which they were born.
  2. Have those born in January - March meet together, those born in April - May meet together, etc.
  3. Give them a minute to introduce themselves to each other if needed. Ask each group to discuss the following question among themselves:
What do you celebrate (or look forward to) about the midlife stage of life?
  1. Give the groups several minutes to discuss this question.
  2. After several minutes, ask for their attention and ask groups to share some of the things that were mentioned during their small group discussions. You may want to record answers on a blank overhead.
  3. We reward those who “share” answers with miniature chocolate candy bars!
After each group has reported, tell the participants that some of them are going to change groups.
  1. If they have an elastic waist in the garment that they are wearing, they should move one group clockwise.
  2. Those without an elastic waist should remain where they are.
  3. Give each new group a minute to introduce themselves if needed.
  4. Then ask each group to discuss the following:
What do you fear about this life stage?
  1. Again, give the groups several minutes to discuss this question.
  2. After several minutes, ask for their attention and ask groups to share things that were discussed in their group.
  3. After each group has reported, tell the participants that some of them are going to change groups again.
  4. Those who are wearing corrective lenses should move one group clockwise.
  5. Those who are not wearing corrective lenses should remain where they are.
  6. Give each new group a minute to introduce themselves.
  7. Then ask each group to discuss the next question:
What do you wish your family/friends/co-workers understood better about this life stage?

Give the groups several minutes to discuss the question among themselves and then have each group report.
