Ohio MSEA Research and Educational Activities


The primary focus of the Ohio MSEA project is the evaluation of agricultural management systems that protect the quality and quantity of the state's diverse water resources while maintaining the productivity and profitability of the state's number one industry, agriculture. The project's scope includes integrated science, research, and research-based educational activities at the field and watershed scales.

  • Providing agricultural producers the skills and knowledge to respond independently and voluntarily in addressing Ohio's water quality concerns
  • Developing knowledge-based expert systems and decision aids

  • Evaluating and developing database applications
  • Modeling fate and transport of agricultural chemicals and other nonpoint source pollutants

  • Evaluating coupled riparian, wetland, and agricultural ecosystems
  • Evaluating and developing alternative farming systems and technologies with a focus on water management

  • Evaluating on-site and downstream social and economic impacts
