WOOSTER, Ohio — Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric Fingerhut will visit the Wooster campus of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) this Thursday, Feb. 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Reporters are welcome to attend part or all of the tour. Please contact Mauricio Espinoza, (330) 621-6541 or espinoza.15@osu.edu, to confirm attendance.

During his visit, Fingerhut will learn about several OARDC initiatives that are making an impact in Ohio’s economy: state-of-the-art genetic studies for developing higher-yielding crops and bioproducts; research to keep food safe from foodborne pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella; and projects to generate renewable energy from waste and other biomass resources.

Also highlighted will be the early construction stages of the BioHio Research Park — the first business and technology center in Ohio aimed at capitalizing on the enormous potential of the agricultural biosciences and transforming it into new commercial ventures and jobs. BioHio has already led to collaborations with Cleveland-based Schmack Bioenergy, which manages anaerobic digestion of Akron’s municipal solid waste and has established operations on the OARDC campus to optimize new biomass-conversion technologies.

The largest university agbioscience research center in the nation, OARDC is the research arm of Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.
