COLUMBUS, Ohio — The winter seminar series of Ohio State University’s Department of Horticulture and Crop Science continues on Friday, March 6, at 11 a.m. with “The Health-promoting Properties of Rubus Phytonutrients: A Role for Plant Scientists in the Crop-to-table-to-clinic Research Continuum.”

Attend by live video link on Ohio State’s Columbus campus (244 Kottman Hall) and at the university’s Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) in Wooster (121 Fisher Auditorium).

Admission is free and open to the public.

Speaking will be Joe Scheerens, an associate professor in the host department, who’s part of an interdisciplinary team exploring the chemoprevention of oral and gastrointestinal-tract cancers with clinical treatments composed of freeze-dried black raspberry.

His research in general focuses on improving the quality of fruits and vegetables, including their phytonutritional components.

He holds joint appointments with OARDC and with Ohio State University Extension.

For more information, call (330) 263-3823.

The Department of Horticulture and Crop Science is part of Ohio State’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.

OARDC and OSU Extension are the research and outreach arms, respectively, of the college.
