SOUTH CHARLESTON, Ohio – From disease and insect management to irrigation to variety selection, pumpkin growers have the opportunity to glean advice and information from Ohio State University Extension specialists during a free pumpkin field day on September 1.

The field day will take place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center Western Agricultural Research Station in South Charleston, Ohio. OSU Extension specialists from the departments of entomology, plant pathology and horticulture and crop science, as well as experts from OSU South Centers at Piketon and those practicing Integrated Pest Management will field questions from growers who stop by.

Signs will be used to direct growers to the plots where the specialists will be waiting under a tent or at a table to answer any crop production or pest management questions, including disease, insect and weed management; general horticulture; pollination; micro-irrigation; fertility; and variety selection. Growers are encouraged to bring plant and fruit samples for specialists to diagnose.

Specialists will also hold several small presentations from 5 p.m. to 6 PM at designated research plots.

Refreshments will be provided. In case of rain, the field day will be held in the conference room at the new main building on the research station grounds. Western Agricultural Research Station is located on S.R. 41 between South Charleston and I-70.
