Free Program on Saving Home Energy Dec. 3 in Wooster Writer: Kurt Knebusch Source: Allen Zimmerman, Ohio State ATI WOOSTER, Ohio — Allen Zimmerman of the Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute (Ohio State ATI) and construction management students from the school will present “Saving Home Energy: First the Facts and Then the Audit” from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, in the Local Roots building, 140 S. Walnut St., in Wooster. Admission is free and open to the public. The program will look at practical, affordable ways to save money, energy and the environment. Among them will be reducing hot and cold water use, reducing electricity use, improving air sealing and insulation, improving heating and cooling systems, and having a home energy audit done. Zimmerman is a professor of engineering technology and technical physics and an expert on energy-efficient homes. He heats his own home near Shreve for less than $400 a year. Also speaking will be Keith Speirs of Speirs Architectural Design and the Wayne County Sustainable Energy Network (WCSEN); and Ben King, an Ohio State ATI construction management instructor. They’ll cover energy audits and will demonstrate tools and techniques such as blower doors and infrared thermal imaging cameras. WCSEN (http://www.wcsen.org/) is the sponsor.
